Resources

Jun. 12th, 2017 08:33 am
I thought I would begin my walk here by sharing the "go to" resources for brain food and practical advice out in the Interwebs. I do not consider my self a survivalist, or a prepper - though some of my choices could somewhat fit in some of those camps. I think of myself as an adaptor. These folks can help you be an adapter, and increase your resilience by leaps and bounds.

First up, John Michael Greer, who formerly blogged at "The Archdruid Report" - and now resides at ecosophia.dreamwidth.org. Between his blog posts and his books - both fiction and non-fiction - resides a tool kit for the coming unpleasantness of truly epic proportion. The gold standard in practical coping with what's to come wisdom.

Dmitri Orlov at ClubOrlov.com - An engineer with a dry sense of humor, and sound historically informed views of the current coming crisis. Again, his blog and books are all great reads. His Quidnon project is worthy of second and third looks.

James Howard Kunstler at Kunstler.com - Again, blog, fiction and non-fiction books. Human foibles, and practical responses. His "World Made By Hand" series is a delight and will make you think, and re-evaluate your own mindset.

Charles Hugh Smith at OfTwoMinds.com/blog - Reading him will make you smarter, and more aware of the interconnectivity of all things we take for granted every day. Mostly a writer of non-fiction in blog and book, his writings hold an honored and well-read section of my bookcase.

Tom F. blogging at sparks-31.blogspot.com - Mostly HAM radio and related electronic pursuits - a true throwback DIY-er and dispenser of practical advice that will hit you later that you learned more than you thought you had and you didn't notice it at the time because you were so entertained. He doesn't limit himself to radio, and his advice has been so incredibly useful to me over the time I have been reading him. He has been at it a number of years and his analysis has only grown sharper with time.

James Dakin at BisonPrepper.blogspot.com - Unvarnished, grouchy, salty and practical to a fault. He is not everyone's cup of tea - but occasionally the truth leaves a mark - that's how you remember. Note bene: He doesn't merely call a spade a spade, he calls it a effing shovel. I love this guy for the attitude and the tips.

C5 at darkgreenmountainsurvivalresearchcentre.wordpress.com - A relative newcomer in the Bison Prepper mode, but writing from the heart and gut that will either have you running for the exits, or taking really good notes. I suggest taking notes. A funny, no holds barred dose of reality about what the next chapter is going to look like. In short, you are not ready, and it is likely going to be a lot worse than you think. He will make you rethink the utility of the bicycle as a mode of transport and adaptation tool for sure. I am about ready to sell my car.

Lastly, and low tech - and bless them for it - Dwelling Portably, c/o Lisa Ahne, PO Box 181, Alsea, OR 97321. Send them $5 for a few sample issues and prepare to be amazed. Real people, doing real things and living their own lives. Practical and inspirational. If they sold a lifetime subscription I'd buy one.

Give one or more of them a read. I can promise it will be time well spent.
